the leopard
The original room lined throughout with material of the same name was always very much in demand along the guests. Jacques Garcia has reinvented it in a rather more sophisticated style. Only the carpet has a leopard-skin pattern.
napoleon iii
Pure Napoleon III furniture with two tables designed by Sormani. An enormous mirror of the type known is positioned above the bed.
pagode
Mouldings made of real bamboo, antique Japanese furniture, one wall and the bed covered with red damask.
les rues de paris
This room again owes its name to the wallpaper lining its walls, inspired by old engravings of the monuments of Paris. All the pictures depicting Paris owned by the Hotel have been assembled here.
madame de merteuil
An exquisite 18th-century boudoir with a bed covered by a damask canopy.
the atrium
The famous hotel Atrium: our 20 rooms are built round our famous atrium rising to a heigh of six floors served by a boudoir lift with upholstery
the cardinale room
An apartment with a pretty terrace overlooking the roofs and belfry of Saint Germain des Pres. The splendid portrait of a cardinal belonging to the Hotel was the starting point for the furnishing of this suite with its magnificent curtains of cardinal purple.
the pondichery room
With its purple and gold hangings, its indo-Chinese furniture and its two single beds with canopies over them.
the mistinguett room
The Mistinguett bed, dressing-table and its clock as well as the stools designed by Jean-Gabriel Domergue used to belong to Mistinguett and furnished the bedroom of her house at Bougival. The walls are in trompe-l'oeil shagreen, a material that was very highly prized in the Thirties. To complete the Art Deco decoration Lalique sconces and drip-pans were picked up at salerooms.
the reine hortense room
The daughter of Josephine de Beauharnais, the stepdaughter of Napoleon and the wife of the king of Holland (the emperor's brother), gentle Queen Hortense was unswervingly devoted to her Paris mansion. A small sitting-room adjoining her bedroom was completely lined with thick, loose hangings in soft colours, with a ceiling shaped like the roof of a tent. In this luxurious room with a terrace Garcia creates a harmonious reinterpretation of Hortense's charming boudoir.
the oscar wilde room
This very spacious room has a bow window opening onto a beautiful terrace, which has just been created. On the walls a huge emerald green fresco featuring phoenixes has been reconstructed after an engraving depicting Wilde's dining-room in London. Traditional English furniture with an impressive bed-head decorated with swans. A few framed reminder letters indicate that Oscar Wilde really did stay here, even if he was never able to settle his bill! In addition, an 'ultra-British' bathroom with mahogany panelling and a spectacular array of English tap fittings.
the marco polo room
The furnitures were bought from a saleroom run by the auctioneer Cornette de Saint Cyr : impressive imperial seats, wooden bed panels, gigantic porcelain vases.
